SDN Buys More Office Space for Expansion
SDN Communications has purchased the multi-tenant office building and parking lot directly across from its corporate headquarters in Sioux Falls at 2900 W. 10thStreet, which nearly doubles the business broadband service provider’s office space.
SDN has been leasing space across the street at 2900 W. 11thStreet for the last three years to house its internal software developers. Other tenants include Omnitech, Dataware Services, and South Dakota Rehabilitation Center for the Blind. SDN purchased the building from JN Properties, LLC.
SDN CEO Mark Shlanta says the business broadband service provider needs the space and land for long-term growth.
“Ten years ago we had 35 employees. Today SDN is a company of 140 employees. We don’t have room to add another person in our existing buildings,” Shlanta said.
Five years ago, SDN bought the building that housed what used to be Safari Land Pet Center directly west of SDN’s corporate headquarters. The company gutted the building and re-constructed it to fit with the architecture of its main building. That facility now houses SDN Technologies, a division selling phone systems, networking equipment and managed information technology services.
“We are landlocked with no room for additions so when this property across the street became available, our board recognized it as a good growth opportunity,” Shlanta said.
The purchase is on the heels of SDN finishing construction of its data center northwest of Sioux Falls at 5300 N. LaMesa Dr. That facility will provide backup of SDN’s technical services, in case anything catastrophic should happen to its main facility. That site will only house about a half dozen employees. The rest of the space is dedicated to data floor space, including two large leased data spaces.
